Tom Prichard Bio

Even after over 30 years in and around the business, Dr. Tom Prichard is still passionate about professional wrestling. Hooked since he first laid eyes on the larger-than-life characters running the ropes and colliding mid-ring on Texas TV, his fondest memories are of watching the Funks, Harley Race, The Infernos, and other NWA stars on Saturday morning with his older brothers at home in El Paso.

And whether fans who recall Dr. Tom think of one-half of the Heavenly Bodies with Stan Lane or WWF Tag Team Champion Body Donna Zip with the late Chris Candido’s Skip or the first Developmental Talent Trainer and Manager for WWE, what Tom’s legacy might be is that he gave back to wrestling.

Dr. Tom began his journey as a professional wrestler when he started training with “Maniac” Mark Lewin while still a teenager in Texas. He also received supplemental training during that time when he was “stretched” for three months by the Iron Sheik on pre-show Friday nights at the Houston Coliseum. But his initial start in wrestling came well before he ever set foot in the ring as a 12-year-old ringside photographer and later, assistant to Paul Boesch.

Tom eventually went from teenage wrestler to a lucrative behind-the-scenes career at WWE, but what he learned in between in various NWA territories, United States Championship Wrestling, Smoky Mountain Wrestling, and Continental Championship Wrestling just to name a few, was the most valuable training and experience he ever received.

What he experienced in the boardrooms of the Titan Towers in Stamford, CT was certainly eye opening when it came to learning the inner workings of the pro wrestling business, but his first years in close proximity with seasoned wrestlers who knew the ins and outs of the business taught him how to wrestle, the politics of wrestling and about ring psychology and its most important outcome, entertaining the fans.

Tom found out quickly that he not only had to learn how to wrestle, but to understand the psychology behind what he was doing in the ring. He also learned what he needed in order to engage an audience. Even though it’s been 27 years since Tom’s first professional match in Bryan, Texas against El Satanico #2, Tom still keeps himself honed not just as an independent wrestler and mainstay at legends reunions but as a teacher at training camps and seminars across the U.S.

Dr. Tom brings to the squared circle his valuable experience and benefit of longevity each and every time he coaches a prospective wrestler. Because it isn’t so much what Tom’s accomplished in his wrestling career that matters but what he’s learned. Today he firmly believes that the only way to learn wrestling psychology is to be around guys who know it and who are willing to share it. Unfortunately, many of these guys aren’t around to teach it anymore. But Dr. Tom Prichard is.

It is with that mindset that Dr. Tom approaches every camp and seminar he conducts. And with the help of seasoned pros with a no-nonsense approach like Les Thatcher and Harley Race at Elite Pro Wrestling Training (EPWT), Tom is now passing on the torch to younger wrestlers and sharing his hard-earned knowledge for the benefit of their futures in wrestling. And with him he brings experience, knowledge, longevity, and of course, passion.
